Building Technology Consultants, Inc. (BTC), Principal Kami Farahmandpour, and Associate Principal Mike Wiscons have co-authored an article along with nationally recognized concrete expert George Seegebrect, "Key Considerations for Cnocrete Topping Slabs in Split-Slab Construction," published in the November/December 2021 issue of IIBEC Interface magazine.
Within the article, the authors discuss the careful considerations one must make when desiging a concrete topping in split-slab construction. Some key considerations mentioned were adequate surface drainage, proper subsurface drainage, the flexural strength of the topping slab to resist cracking under load, and several other factors learned through years of investigating split slab construction. These considerations must be made to ensure the concrete topping is durable and will not cause distress to the structure beneath it.
