Kami Farahmandpour, Principal for Building Technology Consultants, Inc. (BTC), an active presenter and volunteer in numerous associations, will be co-delivering a seminar at RCI’s 33rd International Convention & Tradeshow to be held at the Marriott Marquis Houston and George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas from March 22 through March 27, 2018.
The seminar, entitled “Litigation Support Services for Building Envelope Experts,” was co-developed with attorney Josh Leavitt, an experienced construction attorney at Much Shelist, PC who has litigated many building envelope-related and other construction cases. Mr. Leavitt if the Chairman of the Construction Law Department at Much Shelist, PC, and is an elected Fellow of The American College of Construction Law Lawyers.
Using case histories, the seminar will provide an overview of the construction litigation process and construction claim types. Kami and Josh will discuss the stages of litigation, the role of an expert, how an expert can make or break a case, and the important attributes of a building envelope expert. The presenters will cover typical challenges facing building envelope experts, such as document management and attribution of damages. They will also cover practical aspects of testifying in various venues.
With over 30 years of building envelope experience, Kami has served as an expert for many construction disputes. His services in building envelope-related cases have included forensic investigations of water leakage and failure issues through nondestructive and destructive testing, using analytical modeling programs to assess proposed solutions, damage calculations and allocation, presentations at mediations, and testimony at depositions, trials, and arbitration proceedings. Having been retained as an expert by plaintiffs and defendants on many cases, he has a unique perspective of the construction dispute process and the role of an expert in such disputes.
