Libraries

Libraries are community staples that need to continuously evolve to meet the community’s needs. Maintaining existing facilities and planning for future changes are critical aspects of that evolution. BTC has assisted libraries across Chicagoland and throughout Illinois with identifying and resolving building component issues, and developing long-term plans for capital asset management. BTC has continuously championed the need for capital asset plans for libraries so that building rehabilitation projects can be properly planned for and not cause financial hardship to the libraries and their communities.

Since library funding is primarily from taxpayer dollars, BTC has often been tasked with developing creative solutions to address building deficiencies. This includes maximizing the facility’s relevance in the community while minimizing the impact on its patrons.

BTC is actively involved in library-based trade organizations including the Illinois Library Association (ILA) and the American Library Association (ALA). BTC’s services for libraries include condition evaluation for facades, roofs, and parking lots, as well as repair design, assessment of repair options and phasing, bidding assistance, construction administration, and capital asset studies.
